Important Notes for Grant Applicants

The deadline is midnight October 1. Once a Grant Application is submitted, the applicant is not allowed to make revisions of any kind.

All applications must have two signatures at the bottom of the Executive Summary from an Executive Director, Financial Officer, or Board Member.

All grant submission files must use the following nomenclature:
Grant Year_Nonprofit Name_Grant Application.

If a nonprofit named Light In The Darkness applied, their file name would be:

2022_LightInTheDarkness_Grant Application.pdf
(or other file extension).


In addition to the OHS Grant Application,
here’s the documentation you’ll need in digital format:

1. Detailed operating budget for the current year

2. Detailed grant request budget

  • Clearly stating how the grant monies will be used. Include a detailed list of items and services to be purchased and the actual cost for each item or service. The total amount must show how all of the grant amount of $50,000, $75,000 or $100,000 will be used.
  • The amount of the grant requested cannot exceed half of your current operating budget.
  • Any use of grant money for advertising, marketing and salaries in total cannot exceed 20% of the grant amount being requested.
  • Ongoing operating expenses, rent, endowments or capital campaign funding do NOT meet the grant criteria.

3. Comparative financial statements (audited if available) for the most recent two year period. For example, if you are applying for a grant in the year 2021, we require comparative financial statements for the years 2019 and 2020 (if completed). These statements must include a Balance Sheet (a statement of Assets and Liabilities) and an Income Statement or Profit and Loss Statement.

4. Organization’s current 990 tax return.

5. Affiliation with federal, public or private funding sources (be specific).

6. Copy of 501c3 IRS letter approving your tax exempt status.

7. Current list of Board of Directors, staff and their position titles.

8. Additional information such as photos, videos or news items may be included. Please set up and save additional files in a separate DropBox folder named “[Non-profit Name] Additional Information”. Be certain to include descriptions and relevance to organization clearly.

Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that will use the proceeds to expand an existing program or establish a new initiative.
