Mission:
Wilderness Works is guiding disadvantaged Atlanta children toward more fulfilling futures with character development, cultural enrichment, and nature-based experiential education.
Purpose of Ministry:
To see homeless and disadvantaged Atlanta children uplifted and guided toward fulfilling futures.
How was the OHS grant used?
Wilderness Works purchased a wonderful bus for transporting needy children to and from their activities.
Volunteer opportunities:
- City Camps
- Mini Camps
- Activity chaperone and coordinators; arts and crafts, food services volunteers, bicycle repair, building maintenance, overnight camping chaperones, etc.
The Good Samaritan Health Center
Mission:
"Spreading Christ's love through quality healthcare to those in need."
Purpose of Ministry:
The Good Samaritan Health Center is a health care home that provides full-time comprehensive medical, dental, mental health counseling, and health education services to uninsured, low-income individuals and families from metropolitan Atlanta.
How was the OHS grant used?
Funds from OHS were used to purchase, install, and implement a practice management software system that allowed more patients to be served and improved the quality and consistency of care delivered to each patient through more accurate records.
Volunteer opportunities:
- The Center needs professional volunteers (doctors, nurses, dentists, nutritionists, social workers). These volunteers set up a schedule to see patients ranging from once per week, once per month, or quarterly.
- Administrative work, helping in dispensary organizing medicines, planning Gala fundraiser.
- Group projects to help with landscaping, preparing hygiene and first-aid kits.
- Internships, mentoring, shadowing – high school, college and post graduate students
